If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve wrestled with anxiety or depression. Maybe you’ve tried everything—counseling, meditation, medication, exercise, even Scripture memorization—and still feel stuck. You might even feel guilty for not being able to “be anxious for nothing” as the Bible says.

I know that place well. I was there—lost, weary, and ready to give up.

My Struggle with Anxiety and Depression

My marriage was falling apart. I was raising three kids, two of them teenagers, all on my own. Between working, cooking, cleaning, carpooling, fixing, and financing—it felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders.

I tried everything: therapy, medication, meditation, music, exercise, Scripture, you name it. They all helped a little, but I could never fully break free. Something inside me was still restless.

Looking back, I realized one thing I hadn’t tried was not trying.

What the Bible Says About Worry

When I turned back to God’s Word, I noticed something I had overlooked. In verse after verse about worry, God wasn’t asking me to fix it. He was asking me to rest in Him.

  • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28 NIV

  • “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” – John 14:27 NIV

  • “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

  • “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” – Psalm 23:4 NIV

The theme is clear: God gives peace. We just have to receive it.

Learning to Rest in God

I finally understood that peace wasn’t something I had to fight for—it was something God freely gives.

When I stopped striving, when I sat still before Him, when I told Him I trusted Him and let go of the details, I finally began to breathe again.

My prayers shifted. They were less about begging for change and more about declaring my trust in God. And slowly, He gave me the peace my anxious heart had been searching for.

A Prayer for Anxiety and Depression

If you’re struggling today, I invite you to join me in praying this prayer. Save it on your phone, write it on your mirror, or whisper it when the worries hit hardest.

Dear Lord,
I come to You today to ask for help. You are my everything. Lord, I need rest. I give You my worry. Take it, Lord. I accept Your peace, love, and understanding. Help me to turn to You and not to myself, to stop doing and start trusting. Help me to wait on Your answers, because I know that they are good. Give me wisdom, hope, and peace. Thank You, Lord, for Your patience and grace. I love You, and I know You love me more than I could ever imagine.

Amen.

Final Encouragement

Friend, you don’t have to carry this alone. God sees your pain, and He wants to give you rest. Let go, lean into Him, and trust that He is working even when you can’t see it.
