Waiting is one of the hardest parts of life. We want answers right away. We want our prayers to be answered on our schedule. Yet the Bible calls us to trust God’s timing. Psalm 37:7 gives us a picture of what waiting looks like when faith leads the way.
The Verse
Psalm 37:7 (NIV)
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”
The Call to Be Still
The first part of the verse says, “Be still before the Lord.” This is more than sitting quietly. It is a posture of the heart. Being still means surrendering control. It means stopping the endless cycle of worry and handing it all to God.
In our fast world, stillness feels unnatural. But God invites us to rest in Him, not in our own strength.
Waiting Patiently for Him
Waiting on God is not wasted time. It is a season of growth. While we wait, God is shaping our character. He is preparing us for what comes next. The word “patiently” here calls us to trust His process. His timing is not delayed. It is perfect.
Do Not Fret Over Others
The second half of the verse reminds us not to be jealous or discouraged when others seem to move ahead. Sometimes it looks like people who ignore God succeed. But their success is temporary. God calls us to focus on Him, not on comparison.
What It Means for Us Today
Psalm 37:7 teaches us three truths:
Stillness before God brings peace.
Waiting with patience builds faith.
Comparison steals our trust in God’s plan.
When we stop striving and choose trust, we see God work in ways beyond our imagination.
Morning Prayer
“Lord, help me to be still before You. Teach me to wait patiently for Your timing. Protect my heart from envy or worry when others succeed. Remind me that Your plan for me is good, and I can trust You. Amen.”
Conclusion
Psalm 37:7 is an invitation to slow down, trust God, and wait with faith. Waiting is not easy, but it is where God grows us the most. As you face unanswered prayers or delays, remember this verse. God is working even when you cannot see it.
